Telepizza Opens In Xu Jia Hui |
Telepizza (a client) have opened a store in the Shanghai Xu Jia Hui metro station (near the Grand Gateway exit). It's part of a huge Christine store. We visited today to try it out. The pizzas are delicious.

Bamboo German-Chinese House At Shanghai Expo |
For the Shanghai Expo Markus Heinsdorff designed a bamboo structure that is used as an exhibition and event space. It is the only two-storey building at the Expo whose load-bearing structures are made of bamboo. The structure marks the end of the German-Chinese project 'Germany and China, moving ahead together' which was initiated by the Goethe Institute in Beijing. The building is an artistic encounter with the theme of sustainable urbanisation, which was the focus of the German-Chinese project. The German-Chinese architecture practice MUDI in Shanghai was responsible for the planning and approval process. More pics at arch daily. |

Shanghai Expo Starts yaean Gets A Holiday |
The Shanghai Expo officially opens on 1 May. See the Big Picture for some very nice photos. In other news, Shanghai decided (about three weeks ago! hey, it's not like they've known about the expo coming for eight years or anything like that.) to extend the traditional 1 May Labour Day holiday for the Expo opening. So the yaean office will be closed from Friday 30 April, opening again on Wednesday 5 May. Also most traffic is banned in downtown Shanghai during those days. Enjoy the good weather. Wear sunscreen. |

A Visit To Shanghai Botanical Gardens |
After planning for 2 weeks, we finally decided to go to Shanghai Botanical Gardens last Saturday. It is located in the North West part of Shanghai, close to the South Railway Station. After a freezing week, Saturday turned out to be so warm and lovely, everybody had a "Spring" smile. It was the Flower Festival that day, because of the special wheather, 4 diffferent flowers from different seasons blossomed together. What did we see? Sakura, Pear Blossom, Peony and Tulip. There's a huge area of Tulips with a mini model of Shanghai Expo China Pavillion. Lots of people enjoy taking pictures there. Shanghai Expo Preparation Pictures |
The Shanghai Expo starts in 45 days. The Big Picture photo blog has lots of good pictures of the expo preparations. I think the British Pavilion (see above) may be the iconic image of the Expo. The weather is finally warming up in Shanghai (longest winter in 30 years). Spring is here. Expo is just around the corner. Get ready! |

Shanghai Shopping Malls Christmas Decorations |
Christmas has come to Shanghai's shopping malls in the form of large outside displays. For example, outside of Le Meridien on Nanjing Road at People's Square is a Christmas tree built out of Heineken beer bottles. Read on for more pics of Shanghai malls Christmas displays. Shanghai Expo Sun Valley |
The "Expo Axis" is a 1km long multi-level boulevard connecting the main areas of the Shanghai Expo. It features six huge cone shaped "Sun Valleys" which collect sun light for the lower levels and rain water for re-cycling. It looks amazing when it is lit up at night and is visible from the elevated road that runs by the expo. More pics on the People's Daily. |

Shanghai Expo's Solar Powered Theme Pavilion |
Shanghai Expo is shaping up to the solar powered expo. Shanghai Daily has an article about the Theme Pavilion which has the World's largest rooftop solar energy system. Solar power will also be used at many other sites throughout the expo. See also the Corporate Pavilion and the UK Pavilion |
