Robotic Plant
Kyushu University student Akira Nakayasu has made a robotic plant which he is displaying at the Ars Electronica 2010 Repair Festival. The plant reacts to hands waved over the top by slowly moving its leaves and changing the sounds it makes. The 169 robotic leaves are driven via a PIC controller which processes input from an overhead infrared camera to determine how the leaves should move.

Bamboo Windmill Sails
Dutch designer Gijsbert Koren replaced the steel sails of a classic Bosman Windwatermill with sails made from hand woven bamboo. The bamboo sails are lighter and cheaper than the steel ones - so the windmill is more efficient and more eco-friendly. Marv.
Concrete Sofa
This concrete Chesterfield sofa was made by Gray Concrete for the 100% Design London exhibition. The mold was taken from a real Chesterfield complete with authentic bum prints. Gray have made some stunning pieces in concrete. Turning concrete from something you walk on and ignore to something you admire for its beauty. Who'd have thunk it?
Wooden Mirror
Daniel Rozin made a mirror out of 830 servo-driven wooden blocks, a camera and some software. It makes a cool sound as the angle of the blocks changes - to change the pixel brightness. This is from 1999 not new but very cool.
