Craft Social Hand Painted Glass

8th craft social poster

Last week another successful Craft Social was held at the yaean office with the 'die-hard' crafters (Bailey, Nancy, Penny, Luo Kuan, and Arlyna; Betty was sick but she called in to let everyone know she wants to do the project on Monday), in attendance.

The project was simply hand-painting glass. Playing around with textures and colurs using 2 different type of materials:

  1. Pebeo Vitrea 160
  2. Pebeo Porcelaine 150

Bailey - painted her glass with fishes jumping into the sea

Nancy - painted a glass bowl with a Chinese goldfish kite design

Penny - painted 2 drinking glasses with 2 motifs; 1 with hearts covering the bottom and 1 with a blue-tone 'ethnic' motif

Luo Kuan - opted for simple and…

Craft Social T-Shirts

yaean 7th craft social

Arlyna has been organizing a Craft Social once every 2 weeks in our office. On the 7th Craft Social, it was a special workshop to design T-shirts using the freezer paper stenciling method as seen on a lot of crafty sites like MADE.

The finished articles are pictured below. Read on for more pics of the production process.

Naomi: Likes apples and hearts; simple elements. So she combined the elements into a very nice graphic.

Betty: Likes cute things so Naomi helped her find some doggy designs and Arlyna helped her cut up the stencil. Betty proudly did the painting herself. Betty actually made 2 shirts; the other one was a dolphin.

Nancy: She likes cute stuff, too, and…

Dragon Boat Festival

Dragon Boat Festival

It's the Dragon Boat Festival next week. Fifth day of the fifth lunar month. If you had one of our Tiger Planners you'd know this... We designed a Dragon Boat e-card to mark the occasion and to send to clients - see it here. As usual we came up with quite a few concepts during the process and instead of not using them we thought we'd give them an airing on the blog. So see below. Enjoy.

Shanghai Expo Starts yaean Gets A Holiday

Shanghai expo

The Shanghai Expo officially opens on 1 May. See the Big Picture for some very nice photos.

In other news, Shanghai decided (about three weeks ago! hey, it's not like they've known about the expo coming for eight years or anything like that.) to extend the traditional 1 May Labour Day holiday for the Expo opening. So the yaean office will be closed from Friday 30 April, opening again on Wednesday 5 May. Also most traffic is banned in downtown Shanghai during those days. Enjoy the good weather. Wear sunscreen.

Craft Social

Craft Social

The crafty designers decided to get together to do some crafts together. It started with some googling over a Japanese craft magazine until everyone realized they shared an interest in doing some felt crafts.

A lot of fun. No one wanted to go home.

New Year Offerings

Burning paper money

This morning, the first day back after the New Year holiday, we made offerings and burned money for the gods and ancestors.

We burned incense and offered food in our office.

Outside our building, under the watchful eye of our friendly building security guard, we burned money in a re-purposed bin.

Tiger Planner

Tiger Planner by yaean design

Every year we make something to celebrate the Chinese New Year. This year we've made a wall planner with a difference we're calling the Tiger Planner. Instead of dividing the year into months, we divide following lunar phases. It gives a different way to look at the year and the flow of time.

We're printing a limited number of the Tiger Planners. Drop us an email with your mailing address if you'd like to receive one.

You can download a PDF of the Tiger Planner here. It's big. 2.1MB. For printing on 100 x 70 cm paper. In pixels it's 11714 x 8201.

Here's a hi-res JPEG of the Tiger Planner

Here's what I wrote for the planner:

Welcome…
