Shoot The CD

Elyjah: Planet, Planet

For the packaging of the Planet, Planet CD by Elyjah German designers Zwölf fired pellets into the covers. Included in the package are pictures of the band dressed as if they're on a hunt in the 1920s. They also used old fonts: Memphis, from Emil Rudolph Weiß (1929) and the Wieynck Gotisch from Heinrich Wieynck (1926) - which were printed on an old Heidelberg printing machine.

The video of Wired Song by Elyjah is embedded below from YouTube.

Packaging As Music

1 Bit Symphony by Tristan Perich

Tristan Perich explores the relationship between music and its packaging in his 1 Bit Symphony project. The symphony is packaged in a CD jewel case but it is not a recording. The chip inside the case generates the music as a series of (1-bit) square waves. Even though he is using a simple form of sound wave he still manages to produce complex musical movements. Available for pre-order at Bang on a Can for USD 29.

Video of the project is embedded below from Vimeo.
